Career Jam 2022 CapNY Student Career Interests Findings Released

Oct 13, 2022 06:05 AM

Thanks to our annual Community Impact Partner, Siemens, we were excited to commission an annual index of #CapNY student career interests, skills, & traits in collaboration with @Siena College Research Institute. Our findings released to the media by the Center for Economic Growth & Capital Region Chamber today show:

  • measurable & verifiable career awareness & exploration activities of 1,525 area 8th & 9th graders,
  • areas for improvement in making those career activities accessible to more students of all abilities,
  • student intentions for career pathways beyond high school & whether they intend to stay in the area,
  • their prominent career interests, plus their influencers, and
  • a shift in career sector aptitudes from their simple interests when indexed with students' skills & personal traits (would you be surprised that #manufacturing jumped to number 1!).

As a core component of the #CareerJam Explore program, these data will add value to support educators improving career development & preparedness for students of all abilities. For area employers, trades, economic and #workforcedevelopment stakeholders, it will inform how to invest in better career connections to inspire students to pursue skills needed for growth.
